Update on the Jan 9th Awards Ceremony (December 30, 2020)

Email from Sensei Dye

To: All Shuyokan Members and Families

I hope your holidays were enjoyable under the circumstances with the Pandemic.

Regarding the January 9th Awards Ceremonies and Promotions: We will be holding our formal ceremony on Saturday, January 9th 2021 as planned, but at the Shuyokan Dojo instead of at the original venue listed on your tickets, with the following changes. There will be two ceremonies held, one for those who tested for Brown Belt promotions and one for those who tested for Black Belt promotions. Besides the promotions, there are many of our students who will also be receiving additional awards, so it is very important for all those who tested along with their family members who purchased tickets to attend, to show their support to our students and arrive early for the ceremonies. Below are the times of the ceremonies:

Location: SHUYOKAN DOJO

Ceremony #1 - 5:00 p.m. promptly - Brown Belts

Brown Belt Ceremony and Awards will be at 5:00 p.m (Brown Belt Candidates and family only)

A special Brown Belt DVD presentation will be shown on the Highlights of the students who tested.

Ceremony #2 - 7:00 p.m. promptly - Black Belts

Black Belt Ceremony and Awards will be at 7:00 p.m. (Black Belt Candidates and family only)

A special Black Belt DVD presentation will be shown on the Highlights of the students who tested.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

1. All those attending the ceremonies and awards must wear masks and temperatures will be taken upon arrival. There will be ample room for seating as we will be using the main mat area for additional seating.

2. Black Belt Board Members should also plan on attending to show student support.

3. Light pre-wrapped Luscious Jimmy's sweet snacks will also be handed out to each guest.

4. Photographs will be taken during the ceremonies by our Shuyokan Staff Photographer Soray Julian.

5. Refunds for ticket purchases will be made as soon as I receive a refund check from our original venue.

This is the first year of holding 31 annual holiday awards banquets we have had to make these changes. I want to sincerely thank all you for your continued support and hope that each of you will understand the changes and sacrifices that have had to be made in order to formally recognize and honor our students for their achievements in presenting them with their promotions and awards for 2020.

Another Shuyokan Update (December 6, 2020)

Email from Sensei Dye

To: All Shuyokan Members and Families

Shuyokan will continue to remain open and conduct the modified classes and times all of you have agreed to attend since our lst reopening in September.

Also, I would like to remind all students and family members to be sure to routinely read the Dojo Bulletin Board, check our websites and monitor your emails from me regarding any changes that take place as to any and all activities concerning the Dojo during this Pandemic, especially the email that was recently sent on December 1, 2020 regarding the Awards Ceremony and Promotions date change to January 9, 2021.

In addition, I want to personally thank all of our members and families for supporting your Dojo during this difficult time and kindly remind all of you to make sure every attempt is made to keep your memberships current and up to date, as your memberships continue to play an important role in helping to keep the Dojo open during this Pandemic.

During the holidays the Dojo will be closed from December 23rd to January 1st and will reopen on January 2, 2021 to resume classes after the holidays. Then, all things willing, on January 9th we will conduct our traditional Awards and Promotion Ceremonies to honor all of our students. As indicated in my email on December 1, 2020, all of the information on your party tickets is the same except for the date change and if we are allowed to increase our attendance, additional tickets will be made available to purchase for the event.

Please have a wonderful Holiday season, make the most of it, and above all be safe and stay healthy.

Best Always,
Sensei David A. Dye

Update On The December 5, 2020 Promotions and Awards Ceremony.

Email from Sensei Dye

To: All Shuyokan Members and Families

I hope all of you were able to have a Happy Thanksgiving given the current situation we all have been facing with the Pandemic.

For the past 31 years Shuyokan has always held an Awards and Promotion Ceremony to promote and honor students for their achievements and accomplishments at the Dojo. This year marks our 32nd year in carrying out this tradition. The date for each year's ceremony is always booked with a venue one year in advance so everyone can mark their calendar and make arrangements to attend.

This year's event was scheduled to take place Saturday, December 5, 2020. Unfortunately, due to the Pandemic Tier Orange County is in, our venue would not allow us to hold our event this coming Saturday. With that being said, the decision has been made to reschedule our event to Saturday, January 9, 2021 but retain the same location and time. For those who have purchased your tickets for the ceremony, please keep your ticket(s) as all of the information on the ticket will remain the same except for the date change and there will be no additional charges in order to attend. Although sold out, in the event we are allowed to increase our attendance, additional tickets will be available for purchase.

I know all of the students are anxious to receive their promotions and I want to assure all of the students and family members that everyone did pass their tests. Their certificates will be dated 2020 in order to give them credit for training hours needed to take any future promotional tests in 2021.

In closing, I hope everyone will understand the importance of holding a ceremony, not in a class setting at the Dojo but rather, in a formal setting for all students and family members to be present and witness as a group with other students during their promotions, recognition awards and being able to see themselves on video highlights of their testing with their peers. Also, each student who tested will receive a copy of the DVD highlighting their test.

I want to thank all of you for your continued support and dedication to Shuyokan and I will see all of you on January 9th, 2021.

Be Safe, Stay Healthy and Have a Happy Holiday Season

Shuyokan is scheduled to reopen the week of Monday, September 14th, 2020.

Email from Sensei Dye

To All Members:

I sincerely hope that all of you and your families are doing ok and holding up under these trying times.

I am very happy to announce that the Shuyokan Dojo will be re-opening to resume training starting the week of Monday, September 14th. The modified training schedule for class times and days and all other information that was originally sent out and emailed on June 9, 2020 to all members with the attachment, will remain the same as will the class times and days that each of you reserved in advance.

In addition to regular class training, the focus of the training will be in preparation for Brown and Black Belt testing that is scheduled for all of you in November as was outlined in the email to all members and sent on August 11, 2020.

Below are additional requirements for students who will be returning to resume their training:

1. Please email me in a separate individual email as to your intention to return and resume classes no later than September 12, 2020. If I do not receive an email from you by that date I will assume that you will not be returning to Shuyokan to resume your training and your membership will be changed from Active to Inactive.

2. As a requirement of our Dojo insurance, memberships for all returning students must be current and up to date in order to resume their training. Those members whose memberships need to be brought current and up to date will be able to do so and must be done on their first return date.

3. All rules that were in the June 9th email attachment will remain in force.

I look forward to seeing all of you return to Shuyokan and resume your training. I have also attached another article to this email for you to read on the History of Belt Colors and Ranking Traditions. Enjoy.

In The Spirit of Shuyokan
